It is similar to an interfluve.The Oxford dictionary defines it as a region lying between and reaching to the confluence of two rivers especially Ganga and Yamuna. An example of Doab is the flat alluvial tract of land between the river Ganges and the Yamuna extending from the Shivalik Hills to their confluence at Allahabad. The region has an area around 23,360 square miles. It is approximately 500 miles in length and 60 miles in width.
The Doab was divided into three administrative districts by the British:
1.Upper Doab:
Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzzafarnagar, Gautam Budh Nagar and Bulandshahr.
2. Central Doab:
Etah,Kasganj, Aligarh, Agra, Hathras, Firozabad, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Auraiya and Mathura.
