Hint:While rounding a number to nearest hundred we should consider the number in the ten’s place and analyze it. There are different processes performed depending on the nature of the number present in the tens place i.e. considering if it greater than or lesser than the number 5.
So based on the above statement we can perform the same steps for the number given and then round it to the nearest hundred.
Complete step by step solution:
Given
$7,342...................\left( i \right)$
Now from (i) we can see that in the given number we have 3 in hundreds places and 4 in the tens place.
Now while rounding a number to the nearest hundred we have to consider the number present in the tens place such that:
a) If the number in the tens place is greater than 5 then it’s rounded up such that to the next nearest hundred considering the number in the hundreds place.
b) If the number in the tens place is lesser than 5 then it’s rounded down such that to the previous nearest hundred considering the number in the hundreds place.
So here in the hundreds place we have 3 which can be rounded to either 4 or 5 depending on the number present in the tens place.
Here at tens place we have 4 which is less than 5 so the number $7,342$ is rounded down such that it’s rounded to the nearest lowest hundred which would be 300.
Therefore on rounding $7,342$ we can write:
$7,342 = 7,300$.
Note: On solving questions similar to the above one we should always take care about the two rules mentioned above such that it would be easier to execute the simplification process. Rounding of a number simply means the process of replacing it with another number such that it’s nearly equal and can be represented in a much easier way.
