Hint: A circle is the locus of the points drawn at equidistant from its centre. The distance from the centre of the circle to its border line is called radius. Circles are round in shape. So in the above rectangle we have in total 7 figures. From those figures, identify the figures which are round in shape and count them. Divide this count by total no. of figures inside the rectangle to get the ratio of no. of circles to all the figures inside the rectangle.
Complete step-by-step answer:
We are given to find the ratio of no. of circles to all the figures inside the given rectangle.
As we can see in the above diagram, excluding the rectangle we have 7 figures in total
Out of which 3 are triangles; 1, 5, 7 figures, 2 are squares; 2 and 6 figures and 2 are circles; 4 and 7 figures.
Figures 4 and 7 are circles because they are round in shape as its edges are curved.
So the no. of circles inside the rectangle is 2 and the total no. of figures including circles is 7.
Ratio of the no. of circles to all the figures inside the given rectangle is $ \dfrac{2}{7} $ which can also be written as $ 2:7 $
So, the correct answer is “ $ 2:7 $ ”.
Note: Figures 2 and 6 are considered as squares but not rectangles, because all the sides of a square are equal whereas only opposite sides are equal in a rectangle. For this type of question, if there are many figures given, always number the figures to have more clarity and clear out confusion while solving.
