Hint: You might have noticed at home that before making rice, your mother picks out all the unwanted substances like husks of paddy or small stones present along with the grains. These substances are easily identifiable and thus can be separated by using a handpicking method.

Complete step by step solution:

When two or more substances or components are mixed together, they form a mixture. Sometimes the components present in a mixture have to be separated because they may not be useful or may spoil the useful component of the mixture.

There are two types of mixture:
Homogeneous mixtures
Heterogeneous mixtures.

Homogeneous mixtures have the same proportions of its components uniformly throughout the given sample. Conversely, a heterogeneous mixture is one in which the proportions of its components vary throughout the sample.
Handpicking is a method in which different components(substances) present in the mixture can be separated by identifying and handpicking the component that we want to separate. Since, the size of particles (mango in this case) is large enough and thus can be easily separated by using a hand-picking separation method. This method is carried out in dry conditions. Substances in this method of separation are separated on the basis of their size, color, shape, weight.

Note: A heterogeneous mixture consists of two or more phases. A phase is any part of a sample having a uniform composition and properties. In a heterogeneous mixture, phase is a separate layer.
