Hint: There are two parts for every complete sentence that is the subject and the predicate. Subject can only be an object that the noun and the pronoun whereas the predicate contains verbs to tell what subject is doing.

Complete answer:
Subject talks about the what or whom the sentence is all about and the predicate talks about the subject. For example: The dog is sleeping in the rain. Here, in this example ‘dog’ is the subject and predicate is sleeping, predicate basically explaining what the subject is doing.

Option A) Subject: an arrow; Predicate: I shot into the air – is an incorrect answer because an arrow is not a subject in the sentence and ‘I shot into the air’ is not the predicate. So, this option is an incorrect answer.

Option B) Subject: the air; Predicate: I shot an arrow – is an incorrect answer because ‘the air’ cannot be a subject and ‘I shot an arrow cannot be a predicate. As it was clearly explained above the meaning of subject and predicate in the sentence. Thus, this is an incorrect answer.

Option C) Subject: I shot; Predicate: an arrow into the air – is an incorrect answer because ‘I shot’ is not a subject rather ‘I’ is the subject. However, again this is an incorrect answer.

Option D) Subject: I; Predicate: shot an arrow into the air – is the correct answer because the sentence has the subject ‘I’ which explains an action that is the predicate ‘shot an arrow into the air’. Therefore, this is the correct answer. Subject: I; Predicate: shot an arrow into the air – Option D.

Hence the correct answer is option ‘D’.

Note: Every sentence consists of the least subject and a predicate. A simple sentence has one subject and one predicate, however, a complex sentence has more than one subject and predicate.
The given sentence is a simple sentence and has one subject and predicate. The sentence is about an arrow, and the sentence says that it was shot into the air by me (I). Therefore, Option D is the correct answer.
