- The Ranjit Sagar Dam, also known as Thein Dam, is situated on the River Ravi on the border of two Indian states, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. In 1912, the first recorded proposal for storage on the river Ravi was set at 200 ft. High Dam near the village of Thein. It was inspected by a committee led by Mr. Willey from 1926 to 1927. It was in 1957 that the plan for the Ravi River Storage Dam materialised into an irrigation scheme. The first multi-purpose project report was sent to the Government of India in 1964.
