Before independence M .N. Roy suggested the idea of an Indian Constituent assembly. In 1935 it became the official demand of INC(Indian National Congress). On 15 November 1939, our freedom fighter C. Rajagopalachari demanded our own assembly & the British empire accepted in August 1940. As we know the situation at the time of 1940. So initially constituent assembly was not elected on the basis of universal adult suffrage and Muslims and Sikhs received special representation as minorities. The assembly was boycotted by the Muslim league after failing to prevent its creation. While a huge part of assembly is drawn from INC. A wide diversity of opinions were included by INC- from conservative industrialists to radical Marxists, to Hindu revivalists. On 9 December 1946, they met for the first time in Delhi in the presence of 207 members & the last session was on 24th January 1950 . The foremost task of the assembly was to free India through our new constitution. On 26th November assembly approved the drafted constitution & on 26th November it took effect & the assembly became the interim parliament of India.
