Hint: Tapetum is a nutritional layer of cells found in the male gamete or another of flowering plants. Tapetum is located in between the sporogenous tissue and another wall.
Complete answer:
Tapetum is specialized nutritive tissue found within another of the flowering plants. It is an important part of pollen grain as it provides the nutrition to the developing pollen grains.
There are two main types of tapetum
- Secretory tapetum
- Plasmodial tapetum
1) Secretory tapetum: - Secretory tapetum is also called glandular tapetum. The cells of tapetum break down after wall formation whereas cytoplasm is found inside the cells. The major role of secretory tapetum is secretion of pro-orbicules. The pre orbicules get coated with sporopellin. This takes part in formation of an outer layer of pollen called exine. It is found among the monocot Acorales.
2) Plasmodial tapetum: - They are also called amoeboid tapetum. In these types of tapetum, the tapetum cell wall diffuses and dissolves and so cannot be focused in later stages of development. The protoplast in plasmodial tapetum face to go to a multinucleate plasmodium. It is the most common type of tapetum. It is mainly found in the mangled dade. The plasmodial type of tapetum is found in angiosperms. The tapetal cells combine and form tapetal peri-plasmodium. The protoplast of fused tapetal cells then more during meiol division in the locule. Plasmodium tapetum is found mainly in typhe, Alisme, Butomus etc.
Thus the correct answer is option B i.e, Amoeboid or invasive type
Note: Tapetum in flowers performs various functions such as providing nutrition to developing pollen grain, formation of pollen wall, formation of callus enserve for separation of microscopic tetrodes. It also takes part in providing nutrients to the inner side of another.
