Hint: The term environment has been derived from a French word “Environia” means to surround. The word environment means surroundings in which organisms live.
The branch of science which deals with the study of origin, transport, reactions, effects and fate of chemical species in the environment is known as Environmental Chemistry.

> The environment can be defined as a sum total of all the living and non-living elements and their effects which influence human life. So the environment includes factors and conditions in the surroundings which may have an impact on the development, action or survival of an organism or group of organisms.
> It includes living and nonliving elements. Living elements are called biotic elements which include animals, plants, forests, fisheries, and birds, etc. Non-living elements are called abiotic elements which include water, land, sunlight, rocks, and air, etc.
