It appears to be shiny grayish in appearance. Magnesium is very similar to beryllium as both are placed in the same group.

Complete answer:
We have to know that magnesium is a chemical element that is present in a periodic table having atomic number 12. Atomic symbol for magnesium is Mg. It belongs to group 2 i.e. alkaline earth metals. Since magnesium has all metallic properties like it is a good conductor of heat and electricity also it is a lustrous metal. It appears to be shiny grayish in appearance. Magnesium is very similar to beryllium as both are placed in the same group.
Since metals usually have a low melting point. Magnesium being a metal has a low melting point. The most common oxidation state of magnesium is +2 and +1 i.e. a strongly basic oxide
Electronic configuration of Magnesium: [Ne] 3s2
Magnesium has filled electronic configuration.
Mass number of magnesium is 24 amu which is approximately double the atomic number i.e. 12. The number of protons is the same as that of atomic number which is 12, and number of neutrons can be found by differentiating between mass number and number of protons i.e. 12.

Note:
We need to remember that the protons carry positive charge, electrons carry negative charge whereas a neutron is a neutral species that has zero or no charge. Number of neutrons is different in isotopes. Magnesium belongs to s block elements, it is an alkali metal which belongs to group 2.
