The second stage is nitrification in this step ammonia is converted to nitrate $ N{O^{3 - }} $ . The third stage is Assimilation in which nitrogen and ammonia are incorporated so that animals can utilize it. The fourth stage is ammonification and the last step is denitrification. At last, we obtained the gaseous nitrogen, and then again the same cycle repeats.
The first step of the nitrogen cycle is also known as atmospheric nitrogen fixation and this takes place only when the electrical discharge of lightning combines oxygen and nitrogen present in our atmosphere.
