The Communists worked with the CSP during the Popular Front period. Acharya Narendra Dev was one of the main propounders of the Congress Socialist Party. He was in favour of Democratic Socialism and believed in non-violence tactics like satyagraha to be the most powerful weapons. Narendra Dev was influenced towards national politics by Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Aurobindo Ghosh. While he was a teacher he gathered interest in the study of Marxism and Buddhism. He played a major role in the Hindi language movement.
