Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was the first prime Minister of India, was born on 14th November, 1889 in Allahabad. His father , Moti Lai Nehru was a great lawyer. The name of his mother was Swarup Rani. He was born with a silver spoon.

For education, he went to England at the age of 15. He studied at Harrow School there. Then he got admission in Cambridge University. Later he studied Law and became a lawyer. He came back to India and began his practice at Allahabad High Court.

As a freedom enthusiast , he gave up his flourishing practice and joined the freedom movement under the great Mahatma Gandhi. He was jailed several times amid the fight for freedom. This rose his popularity and he was made the President of the Congress Party many times. In 1947, when India got Independent, he was elected the First Prime Minister. He proved to be a successful Prime Minister.

Under his leadership, India made many benchmarks. He was a great statesman, his idealist approach and the fire to dream benefitted India in many ways. As a writer, he has written many books. He gave his sweat and blood to serve his country.

Pandit Nehru was very fond of children. And the children called him Chacha Nehru lovingly. He always liked and cherished the company of children. His birthday, 14th November, is now celebrated as Children’s Day.

He was made to rest in peace on 27th May, 1964. Everyone remembers him fondly.
