Here we will use number line to solve the given question.
Number line- A number line can be defined as a straight line with numbers placed at equal intervals or segments along its length. A number line can be extended infinitely in any direction and is usually represented horizontally.
Example-
Complete step by step answer:
In above question we have to find integer 4 more than -5, so first we will make a number line with minimum -5 and 5 marks on left and right respectively.
Now we will move four steps towards right of -5 .
We will reach -1.
Therefore answer for above question is-
An integer which is 4 more than -5 is -1.
Note: On number line we are moving right of given number because we need to find number more than given number.
If we change the question find number 4 less than -5 then we will move 4 steps towards the left of -5 and we will get our answer as -9.
We need to remember some points while performing operations based on integers-:
1. Sum of any integer with its opposite integer is always 0.
Like sum of 2 and -2 is 0
2. Sum of positive integers are always positive.
Like sum of 2 and 2 is 4
3. Sum of negative integers are always negative
Like sum of -2 and -2 is -4
4. To find the sum of one positive and one negative integer we will use their absolute values and will subtract them.
The sign of larger given value will be the sign of the result obtained.
Like-:
Sum of 4 and -5 is-
Subtraction of 5 and 4 that is 1. \[\left( {5 - 4 = 1} \right)\]
Now we will use the sign of larger value which is -5 in our result.
So our answer for sum of 4 and -5 = -1.
