Hint: The solar system consists of eight planets that revolve around the sun. Out of these eight planets, four are rocky planets (which means that they have a solid surface), while the other four are gaseous planets (which means that they have a very dense atmosphere and no solid surface beneath it.)

Complete step by step answer:
The eight planets in the increasing order of their size are-
-Mercury: It is the smallest among all planets of the solar system. It is also the closest planet to the sun. It is a rocky planet and has a very thin exosphere.
-Mars: It is the second smallest planet in the solar system and is the fourth closest planet to the sun. It is a rocky planet and has a very thin atmosphere. It’s known for its bright red colour, and it has two moons.
-Venus: It is the third smallest planet in the solar system. It is the second closest planet to the sun and a rocky planet. It has an atmosphere that is rich in greenhouse gases, these make Venus the hottest planet in the solar system.
-Earth: It is the fourth-smallest planet in the solar system. It is the third closest planet to the sun and a rocky planet. It has an atmosphere rich in nitrogen and oxygen. All known life is only possible on earth. It has one moon and is also known as the “Blue Planet” due to its large oceans.
-Neptune: It is the fourth largest (fifth smallest) planet in the solar system. It is the planet that is situated farthest from the sun. It is a gas giant which appears light blue and has six very faint rings.
-Uranus: It is the third-largest (sixth smallest) planet in the solar system. It is the seventh closest planet to the sun. It is also a gas giant and known as a “sideways planet” because it rotates about an axis that is sideways with respect to the direction of its revolution.
-Saturn: It is the second-largest (seventh smallest) planet in the solar system. It is the sixth closest planet to the sun. It is also a gas giant and is very well known for its “rings”. It has the maximum number of moons.
-Jupiter: It is the largest planet in the solar system and is the fifth closest planet to the sun. It is a gas giant. It also has a very large number of moons revolving around it, comparable to Saturn.
Thus the increasing order is-
Mercury, Mars, Venus, Earth, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter.

Note:
The solar system once had nine planets, a ninth planet “Pluto” was also considered as a part of the solar system. It was a rocky planet, farthest from the sun and smallest in size. It was later removed from the list of planets for being too small and is now categorized as a “dwarf planet”.
