About RD Sharma Book

RD Sharma Class 11 Math book is highly recommended to students for studying and practicing from, and for clearing fundamental concepts as well. The curriculum is made in accordance with the syllabus given by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Chapter 14 on Quadratic Equations is based on the concepts learnt in the previous chapter, i.e., Complex Numbers. It starts with a recap of previous concepts of quadratic equations with real numbers where the discriminant is non-negative. A quadratic equation is one in the form: ax2 + bx + c= 0 where a, b and c are real coefficients and the discriminant (D) is b2 - 4ac. In case of complex numbers, i.e., for imaginary numbers, D is less than 0. Then the solutions of a quadratic equation for complex numbers is illustrated next.

The square root of negative real numbers is available in the set of complex numbers. Therefore, the solutions of a quadratic equation with imaginary numbers,ie, negative real numbers in the equation can be given as:

               x =  {−b ± √(4ac - b2) i }/ 2a

where i= √-1.

 It also states that a polynomial equation of degree “n” has “n” number of roots.
