  • Units of measurement of area: A two-dimensional shape's area is measured in square units. In SI, the area is measured in square metres (m2), which is derived from the SI definition. The other units used  for  area are

  • Perimeter and area of squares and rectangles: In mathematics, a rectangle's perimeter is defined by the formula P=2l+2b, where l is the rectangle's length and b is its width. The area of a rectangular shape A is given by the formula, A=lb, where l is the length and b is the width of the rectangle.

  • The perimeter of rectangles: The perimeter of a rectangle is the length of all its 4 sides. Formula to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle is:

Perimeter of Rectangle  =  2  ×  Length  +  2  ×  Breadth

Areas of a parallelogram: The area of a parallelogram is defined as the area enclosed by a parallelogram in two dimensions. In case you don't recall, a parallelogram is a quadrilateral with four sides where the sides are parallel to each other. There is an equal length on both sides and equal angles on opposite angles in a parallelogram. A rectangle's area is equal to a parallelogram's area because both have similar characteristics.

Area = b × h Square units

  • Area of a triangle: Three sides of a triangle occupy the same space in a two-dimensional plane, so the area of a triangle is the total space occupied by its three sides. In basic formulae, the area of a triangle equals half its base plus half its height.

A = (½) × b × h.
