RS Aggarwal Solutions for Class 6 Math Chapter 6 - Integers

Math RS Aggarwal Class 6 Chapter 6 Exercise 6.1 educates students that collecting numbers with the negative or positive sign are called integers. Students will learn how to represent integers on a number line while practicing several exercise problems. To represent integers on a number line, students have to first draw a line and mark points as 0, 1, 2, and so on. They come across the concept of successor and predecessor; that is, moving 1 right to the number represented on a number line gives that respective number's successor. However, moving 1 left to the number represented on a number line gives its predecessor.

All the positive numbers refer to positive integers and all the negative numbers as negative integers. It shows that zero is neither a negative nor a positive integer. Class 6 students will learn new concepts in chapter 6, such as Additive Inverse. The number when added to integer results 0 refers to the additive inverse. Apart from it, students will go through some general facts about integers. Zero is always less than a positive integer and greater than a negative one. A negative integer is always smaller than a positive integer.

There are three major properties of integers, namely, commutative, associative, and distributive. Commutative property tells that adding a and b gives the same result as adding b and a. Associative property tells that adding a to the sum of b and c gives the same result as adding c in the sum of a and b. Distributive property tells that adding a to the product of b and c gives the same result as adding (a x b) and (b x c). Practicing as many questions as possible in RS Aggarwal Math Class 6 chapter 6 exercise 6a will help students to score better in their final exams.

FAQs on RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 6 Chapter-6 Simplification (Ex 6A) Exercise 6.1

1. How to find the sum of -50 x -200 + 300 x 100 + 40?

Integers possess three major properties, namely, associative, commutative, and distributive. The problem is given in the question to be solved by using these properties of integers. The problem stated in the question:

-50 x -200 + 300 x 100 + 40

can be written as

(-50 x -200) + (300 x 100) + 40 for better understanding.

Multiplying -50 x -200 gives 1000 (No negative sign as negative x negative gives positive result). Now multiplying 300 x 100 gives 30000. Adding the value of (-50 x -200) to (300 x 100) and 40 gives 30000 + 1000 + 40 = 31040. Hence the final solution to the problem is 31040.

2. Which is greater among (-3) + (-6) and (-3) – (-6)?

Applying the properties of integers (-3) + (-6) gives -3 – 6 = - 9. And (-3) – (-6) becomes -3 + 6 (As negative x negative gives positive result).

Hence, (-3) – (-6) gives 3. Now, comparing -9 and 3 shows that 3 is greater than -9. It is from the fact that a negative integer is always smaller than a positive integer. Hence, -9 resulted from (-3) + (-6) is smaller than 3 resulted from (-3) – (-6). Or it can be written as -9 < 3.

The primary property used in the above problem is that a negative integer is always smaller than a positive integer. No matter if the magnitude of the negative one is larger than the positive one.

Simplification makes algebraic expressions easier to understand and solve. It means to reduce the fraction to its lowest term by discarding the lowest common factor of the numerator and denominator, or compress algebraic expressions by grouping and combining similar terms.
