What Are Fractions?

Fraction is derived from the Latin word “Fractus” which means “broken”. It is a part of the whole object or number. For example, if we cut an apple into 5 pieces, every piece is a fraction of the whole fruit. Earlier fractions were represented in words but later we started using numbers to represent fractions. Following are the different concepts dealt with under this chapter. Students are supposed to solve all the answers without failing to understand the chapter completely. This exercise has more than 50 questions regarding fractions and related concepts. Students should try solving them by themselves and then cross-check the answers with the solutions. Any doubts regarding these can be clarified either from your teacher or online.

Parts and properties of a fraction as mentioned in RS Aggarwal chapter 2 class 7 book

Fraction is a part of the whole object or number. For example, if we cut an apple into 4 pieces, every piece is a fraction of the whole fruit. Earlier fractions were represented in words but later we started using numbers to represent fractions. A fraction has a numerator and a denominator. The numerator is the part that is on the top and the part which is below the numerator is the denominator. For example, in a fraction ¼, 1 is the numerator and 4 is the denominator. Following are the properties of a fraction:

In addition to and multiplication of fractions, commutative and associative fractions are true.

The multiplicative inverse of a fraction, let’s say, b/c is c/b. Then neither b nor c is equal to zero.

Fractions agree on distributive property of multiplication

FAQs on RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 7 Chapter-2 Fractions (Ex 2C) Exercise 2.3

1. Define a fraction and its types as mentioned in RS Aggarwal chapter 2 class 7 book?

Fraction is a part of the whole object or number. For example, every slice of pizza is a fraction of the whole pizza. Earlier fractions were represented in words but later we started using numbers to represent fractions. Based on the properties of numerator and denominator, fractions are divided into proper fraction, improper fraction, mixed fraction, like a fraction, unlike fraction and equivalent fraction. In the proper fraction, the numerator is less than the denominator and vice versa in an improper fraction. A mixed part is a combination of an integer and a fraction. For a detailed understanding of these types, please visit Vedantu.

2. How do RS Aggarwal solutions help class 7 students?

RS Aggarwal is a book recommended by the experts and toppers for students preparing for CBSE math exams. The book is carefully designed by experts with proper knowledge about the syllabus, previous year questions, exam patterns. Hence, it is in perfect sync with the CBSE curriculum. so, practising these questions and solving the problems will make the students accustomed to the exam patterns and also help them understand the weightage of each chapter. Students should try solving them by themselves and then cross-check the answers with the solutions. Any doubts regarding these can be clarified either from your teacher or online.

3. Define like, unlike, unit and equivalent fractions as mentioned in RS Aggarwal chapter 2 class 7 book?

Fraction is derived from the Latin word “Fractus” which means “broken”. It is a part of the whole object or number.

  • Like fractions, as the name suggests, are similar. When you solve fractions mathematically, you get the same answer. For example, ¼ and 2/8 are like fractions.

  • Unlike the like fractions, unlike fractions are dissimilar. For example, ⅓ and ⅖ are unlike fractions.

  • On the other hand, equivalent fractions are fractions where two fractions are similar after simplification. For example, ⅔ and 4/6. For a detailed understanding of these types, please visit Vedantu.

4. What are the rules to be followed while solving problems related to fractions as mentioned in RS Aggarwal chapter 2 class 7 book?

Rules to be followed while solving problems related to fractions are:

  • Addition and subtraction of fractions are possible only when the denominators are equal for two fractions. Hence we should make sure they are equal for both the fractions

  • To multiply two fractions, numerators and denominators are multiplied and the product is simplified.

  • To divide the fractions, find the reciprocal of it and multiply it with the other fraction
