Every day, the son of a blind, destitute Brahman and his wife would go out and beg for whatever he could. Tired of a wretched life, he decided to move abroad after informing his wife. He went to the capital of the neighboring nation and told a merchant of a shop his story of poor parents and wife, and made an alms request. The merchant, moved by Brahman's compassion, suggested visiting the king of the nation.

The king was looking for a Brahman to take care of a golden temple. He hired the young brahman immediately with an annual salary of fifty kharwars of rice and one hundred rupees.

After some time, the wife of the young brahman went to look for him. She met her husband by fate. Brahman wrote three pieces of advice on a paper, gave it to her, and asked her to deliver it to the king in return for lakh rupees.

Three pieces of advice were, first, if a traveler reaches a strange place at night, he should not close his eyes in sleep, for fear of death. Secondly, if a man visits his married sister in great pomp, she will receive him joyfully; but if he comes to her in poverty, she will frown on him and disown him. Thirdly, a man must do his own work with might and without fear.

The son of the king bought the paper from brahmani for lakh rupees. He showed it to the king, who got furious with the prince and banished him from the nation. After bidding his farewell, the prince set off on a journey. Prince met a stranger who invited him to stay in his lodge.

He remembered the first advice and did not close his eyes, so when the man came to slay him, he opened his eyes. Prince told the man if he killed him, he would be sorry afterward. He then proceeded to tell the story of a man who killed his dog in exchange for the sword.

A man borrowed money from a brother merchant, leaving the dog as a pledge. One day, there was a robbery in a merchant’s shop. Dog who witnessed everything, took the merchant to the place where the thieves had hidden the goods. Merchant was very happy and sent the dog back to his owner with more money and a note to forget the loan. But the owner thought that it was a sign to repay the money. He slayed his dog with the intention of no dog no loan. But later he read the note and was disappointed.

The next day, after rewarding the man, he set out to visit his brother-in-law’s nation. However, he disguised himself as a jogi, for he remembered the second advice to not visit your married sister with poverty. The king of the nation became interested in jogi and took his ill wife for a cure. Jogi was able to cure the wife of the king. But later when the king ordered to execute the prince who was disguised as jogi on account of the queen's lost pearl rosary, he bribed a man to flee the nation.

Next he saw a potter and his family who were crying and laughing alternately. On asking the reason behind such an act, Potter replied that his son was to marry the princess. However the problem was that each time the princess's husband died on the first night.  Prince offered to exchange the places with the potter’s son. He dressed up and married the princess. At night, the prince was ready with his sword when he saw two Shahmars come out of the princess's nostrils. He fought with them and killed both of them.

Next morning, the King was happy to see the groom of his daughter alive. On learning that the young man is a prince, the king was very glad to appoint him his successor to the throne. After a year, the prince set out to visit his own country with elephants and horse. On his way back he also stopped by his brother-in-law who welcomed him and bid him farewell with elephants,horses, soldiers, and jewels.

Prince was well received by his parents, to whom he told the story of his journey.  He also told his father how he had followed the Brahmani's instructions and had been repeatedly spared. Following the king's expression of regret for having expelled him, everything returned to happiness and serenity.
