There may not be anyone who does not know about lord Ganesha. Lord Siva and devi Parvati. Ganesha is among the most widely known Indian gods and is also a kid's favourite. Lord Ganesha has a human body while his head is of an Elephant. Gajanana's story is about a Lobhasur demon who was born out of lord Kuber. Lobhasur becomes very powerful after receiving a boon from lord Shiva and starts causing trouble. All the gods were in trouble and asked for help from the fearsome lord Ganesha.
The Gajanana story is taken from ancient books like Puranas and Upanishads. Gajanana is a mythological story that describes Lord Ganesha, and a fearless demon. Lord Ganesha was born to Parvati, he has a human body with an elephant head. While Lobhasur was born from the greed of lord Kuber and gained power from Shiva's boon.
Once upon a time lord Kubera decided to visit lord Shiva and Parvati in heaven. Lord Kubera is also known as the god of old and wealth. As lord Kubera went to heaven he climbed up the great Kailash part where od shiva resides with her wife.
Lord Kubera met and greeted Shiva and Parvati. Kubera saw Parvati and couldn't take his eyes off her as she was so beautiful. Lord Kubera kept on staring at her even without blinking. When Parvati notices that Kubera is staring at her, she gets extremely angry.
Soon Kubera noticed that Parvati was turning red in anger, and was very scared. He immediately stopped looking at her and went back. This greed (Lobh) of Kuber led to the birth of a vicious demon called Lobhasur (Greediness-demon). Kubera tried to stop and kill Lobhasur but he failed.
Later Lobhasur left Kuber and went to the kingdom of demons. There he performed lots of meditation and Yagya. Lord Shiva was so impressed by his devotion and long meditation, that he gave him a boon of fearlessness. Now nothing ever can scare Lobhasur. This made him even more powerful and courageous.
After gaining so much power he started causing trouble everywhere, he threatened gods, killed innocents, and much more. Soon he conquered all three worlds and replaced all the gods with himself. Everyone was very worried about the situation and decided to visit sage Raibhaya.
On the advice of sage Raibhaya, all the gods worshipped lord Ganesha, son of lord Shiva and Parvati, and Ganesha actually appeared in Gajanana Avatar. Everyone was pleased and relieved. As Lord Shiva came to know about this, he went straight to Lobhasur. Shiva then told everything about Ganesha like his Avatars, his power, anger, and strength Lobhasur. This made the fearless Lobhasur very scared and he surrendered to god, and the peace was regained.
Lord Kubera Meeting Shiva and Parvati
The moral of the Gajanana story is that one should never be overconfident in his/her abilities. For example, Lobhasur became very confident and arrogant after getting the boon that he respected no god and turned arrogant which led him to defeat in the end. Therefore we must not let the evil of arrogance creep inside us. Another moral we get here is that greediness gives birth to evil, just like Kuber's greed gave birth to a deadly demon.
1. Who is lord Kubera?
Lord Kubera is known as the god of gold and wealth, as he provides prosperity and material wealth.
2. How was Lobhasur born?
Lobhasur was born through the greed (Lobh) of lord Kubera, which came while staring at Mata Parvati's beautiful face.
3. What made the fearless Lobhasur scared?
After listening to the strength and power of lord Gajanana the fearless Lobhasur became very scared.
