The story “The Hero Who Was Going To Save The World” is an intriguing short story written to amuse and teach children a certain value. It is a moral story though it may not seem like one in the beginning due to its many funny and comedic situations and results. It teaches children the importance of staying down-to-earth and not thinking that doing any work of any kind is beneath them. This is one such story that teaches this value in a simple language, making children understand the story and learn the morals in it, inspiring them to become better human beings.
The story begins with the main character Toto having fun in the ocean. He was soon bit by a sea urchin. At that exact moment, while rubbing his foot in the water, he was simultaneously attacked by an octopus, a mosquito, and a parrotfish, as well as whipped by a platypus' tail and soaked with seagull poop. All of this transformed him into an extraordinary being, granting him superpowers, super strengths, and super abilities, becoming known as “Superpower Ultra Man”.
Being blessed with such great powers, he immediately assumed that he was responsible for looking out for and saving the world from high-level threats and dangers. Hence, Superpower Ultra Man began to hunt all corners of the world for anything that could harm the planet, solar system, or even the milky way galaxy.
He was soon disappointed as he realised that there was nothing of the sort. The people were going about with their day-to-day simple lives, and none showed any interest in conquering or destroying the world. So then, Superpower Ultra Man became bored and jobless- in the literal sense - spending his time keeping an eye out for the world, internally aware that there was not going to be anything interesting any time soon.
One day, normal citizens came over and offered him the chance to appear on live television to show off his skills, which he gladly accepted. When it was finally time to be under the spotlight, his actions led to a total and complete disaster. Being so obsessed and used to thinking on a high scale, Superpower Ultra Man didn’t even know the basics of being a superhero - rescuing and saving people in need.
He used his abilities to the highest level, unable to control them, and instead of keeping the people, he ended up harming them, earning peals of laughter from the TV specialists, the public, and journalists. This truly was one of the most embarrassing days for any superhero, and the next time people hesitate to look after, care for, or acknowledge the little things, we always have the story of Superpower Ultra Man to be remembered.
The Superhero Short Story for Kids
The fun fact to be pointed out in this superhero story - or any other common superhero story - is to see it from a realistic point of view. Almost all superheroes get their powers from some accidental source or event. For example, Spiderman was created after he was bitten by a radioactive spider. On any other normal day, that could’ve turned out much, much worse.
Secondly, being given such responsibilities of saving the world can be seen more as a curse than a blessing. Likewise, Toto being attacked by those various animals all at once can be seen as a normal young boy having a miserable day. True, reading it as a story is fun and entertaining, but there are always many ways to view any story, not just one right way.
The moral of the story the adventure of Toto, is quite obvious here, as it is to not hesitate or be ashamed of oneself for doing mundane actions or indulging in tasks that one might claim to be “mediocre”. True, we are all destined for great things and surely can achieve great goals, but also taking part in simple events or situations does not reduce your worth or make you seem any “less-cool”. Teaching this moral to children will definitely help in improving their mental and emotional connection with others.
Narrating this story to children during their bedtimes or free time is bound to get them addicted to storytelling, indirectly creating the need and habit of reading books. Being a superhero short story, kids will very much fall in love with it. They will also strive to become better people once they realise or come to know the moral of the story, the adventure of Toto.
They will accept doing any task without caring that it may or may not be beneath them, as there is no task that is unfit for anybody, that everybody does the tasks that are required of them.
