How Doth the Little Crocodile

Taken from the famous book, Alice in Wonderland, the story narrates the character of a crocodile.

Crocodiles are reptiles that live both on land and water. It is a carnivorous animal that generally preys upon fish, birds, frogs, etc. Crocodiles have rough, scaly skin and short legs with claws.

They are generally found in parts of Africa, Australia, America, and Asia. Therefore, the story talks of a little crocodile living on the banks of the river Nile (in Africa).

Story of How doth the Little Crocodile

On a bright sunny day, a little crocodile living in the river Nile plans to come out on the shore. He is not content with how his body looks so he decides to pour more water on his scales from the river using his tail, so they dazzle with the sunshine.

He then sees fish in the water, trying to swim near the shore. Suddenly, with this sight, he comes up with a plan to deceive the fish and catch them. He neatly spreads his claws in the sand to make space for the fish and starts smiling wide to make a hunt. He opens his mouth wide as if to utter a kind word but little did the poor fish know, the crocodile instead gobbles up all the fish that come swimming up towards its body.

The Moral of How doth the Little Crocodile 

The story teaches us that all that glitters is not gold. We should not judge someone solely on the basis of outside appearance. We should be more cautious about whom we are trusting and carefully observe their behavior. We must try to understand other people’s motives behind their actions. Sometimes we trust people easily, just like the fish, but then they face the consequences. The crocodile pretends to have good intentions towards the fish to lure them towards him but in turn, ends up hurting them.

Conclusion

In the aforementioned story, the Crocodile living on the shore of the river Nile sees a couple of fish swimming near the shore. He decides to deceive them and make a meal out of them. He slyly spread himself on the shore to make space for the fish and started smiling wide as a gesture of kindness. However, when the fishes came closer, he swallowed them. We learn that appearances are deceptive and none can be trusted easily.
