Maharishi Bhrigu and Vishnu Story

The history of the conflict between Devatas (Demi-Gods) and Asuras is told in the Matsya Purana (Demons). Maharishi Bhrigu and Kavyamata, Shukracharya's parents, are the focus of the narrative. Shukracharya, the great teacher and Guru of the Asuras, attained the "Mrita Sanjivani" mantra of invincibility. As the Devas' leader, Lord Indra chose Brihaspati to serve as their chief priest.

Although Guru Shukracharya is more skilled, Indra chose Guru Brihaspati as the main priest out of affection for Brihaspati. Sukracharya assassinated himself for his partiality by beginning to prefer the Asuras more.

At that period, it was difficult for the demons to win wars against the gods. The Guru of Asuras, Shukracharya, made the decision to ask Lord Shiva for assistance in defeating Devatas after suffering a number of defeats. Additionally, he asked Lord Shiva for Mrita Sanjivani, a tool Shiva might use to raise the dead. Sukracharya thereupon began to pray to Lord Shiva for the Mrita-Sanjeevani Stotram, a mantra that would render the Asuras invincible, and began his meditation.

Furthermore, Shukracharya's victory would have made it difficult for the Devas to fight the Asuras if he had been given the mantra of invincibility. Sukracharya, who was Maharishi Bhrigu, requested that the Asuras seek sanctuary in his father's ashram in the meanwhile. This was the perfect time for the Devtas and Indra to assault the defenceless Asuras. The Asuras sought refuge from Bhrigu's wife Kavyamata when the sage was not around. Indra was paralysed by Kavyamata's yogic abilities, which she also utilised to defend the asuras.

The Devas made the decision to seek safety at the feet of Lord Vishnu after being alarmed by the immobility of Indra. Vishnu made the decision to save the Devas by entering Indra's body. As a result, Kavyamata was furious and threatened to burn them to ashes if they did not go. But when Indra plotted to put Bhrigu's wife to death, Vishnu had to make use of the Sudarshana Chakra. In order to save Indra and the Devtas, Lord Vishnu utilised his Sudarshana Chakra, which acted as her head.

After learning what had occurred, Sage Bhrigu was inconsolable. When Bhrigu saw his wife's state, he became enraged because Lord Vishnu had violated his Dhamma by putting a lady to death. Therefore, Maharishi Bhrigu cursed Lord Vishnu, causing him to have several births on Earth and endure the agony of birth and death repeatedly. As a result of this fabled curse, Vishnu was forced to undergo many Earthly incarnations and pay the price of all human suffering. Even though Bhrigu subsequently brought his wife back to life by spritzing her with holy water from his Kamandalu, he was so enraged and filled with rage that he made the decision not to spare Lord Vishnu.

Together with them, even the other Vishnu Avatars, including Narshima, Parasurama, and perhaps Balaram or Buddha, as well as all the other avatars who have made unquestionable contributions to forming the course of our civilization's history and our sacred texts.
