The Lazy Farmer

Once upon a time, there was a small village. In that village, a farmer lived with his bullocks. He had a cart to carry hay from the field to the market.

He was also known for his laziness. He worked according to his wish and rested more. He could do more work but refused all the time.

One year, it was raining cats and dogs. The farmer was not doing great in selling hay in the market. He was collecting hay in the field and putting it on the cart.

He said, “What torrential rain the gods are giving us this time? If it continues, all the fields will be submerged in water.”

His cart was full of hay. He set the bullocks with the cart and waited for the rain to stop.

The Potholes and Ditches in the Road

It took a few minutes for the rain to stop. He was ready with his cart and already feeling tired. He commanded the bulls to pull it. The bulls know the road they take every day.

The cart was moving at a slow pace. The entire road was muddy. The ditches and potholes in it were brimming with rainwater.

It was very hard to keep the cart steady and move. Suddenly, one of the wheels of the cart fell into a big pothole. It was filled with mud and water. The more the bulls pushed, the more the cart sank.

The Lazy Farmer’s Despair

He tried commanding the bulls to pull the cart. The bulls tried their best to do it but could not make it.

He came down from the cart and started ranting, “Why does this happen to me? This is sheer bad luck. I want to go home quicker and rest. Oh, God! Please help me.”

He kept on ranting. God was irritated with his rant. He appeared with an annoyed face and said, “What do you want?”

The farmer said, “God, please help me to bring the wheel of this cart out. You are almighty. You can do anything.”

God replied, “Did you try to help your bulls? Did you think of any idea to pull the cart out? No. You just blame it on God or bad luck.”

The Farmer’s Realisation

The farmer realised what wrong he had done this time. He thought and put some hay in the pothole. He then used his shoulder to lift the cart to some extent and commanded the bulls to pull.

The bulls were tired but the cart was out of the pothole. He thanked God for showing him a way out. God was already gone. He understood that God helps those who help themselves.

Moral of the Story

The Lazy Farmer Story with morals explains that blaming fate will not bring one out of the situation. It is he who can do it. Without asking for help, one must try on his own to solve the situation first.
