Once upon a time, there lived a boy named James in the area called Downtown. James has no one except his mother in his family. James and his mother were very poor. So, James always had to walk to school and his school was also very far from his home. One day, when James reached school at his usual time, he saw that some construction work was happening in the school. When he asked the watchman about it, the watchman said that the reconstruction of the school had started. James wanted to see the construction work and after school, he decided to go there. So, after his school was over, James walked up to the site where construction was going on. When he went there, he saw that the land had been dug up in order to build a wall for the school. James was very curious to know what else was happening in the construction site so he looked further.

James Finds the Shoes

After looking around for a while, something caught James’ eye. He saw that there was a little box buried under the ground. When he tried pulling the box out, he couldn’t because it was stuck. Then James saw a shovel lying nearby. Curious, he decided to dig the sand around the box. Pretty soon, he was able to pull the box out from the ground. Then he saw that the box had a lock in it. Do you know what he did next? He broke the lock with the help of a shovel. When he opened the box, he was surprised to see a pair of old shoes. Then he looked at his own shoes, which had grown old and dingy. He decided to take the pair of shoes home with him.

When he reached home, James told everything to his mother. When he put the shoes on, he saw that they fit him perfectly. His mother then washed the shoes for him to wear the next day. James wore the shoes to his school the next day. Can you guess what happened next?

Now James was really scared when he saw that no one was around. Then the sound said, “Look up James. I am sitting on the tree.” When James looked up he saw a bird sitting there. James was shocked to hear the voice of the bird. He asked, “How do you know my name and how can you speak my language?” The bird laughed and introduced itself. It said that its name was Ami. Then the bird explained that the shoes James was wearing were magical and allowed him to talk to other birds and animals. James was very pleased to hear about the magic shoes. He then promised Ami to meet up with him and his friends in the evening. Thanks to the magic shoes, James now had some very unique friends.
