The Turtle And The Monkey Summary

Once upon a time, there was a monkey and a turtle who lived in the forest. The monkey met the turtle on the road and asked him where he was going. Since the turtle was very hungry, he told the monkey that he was going to find something to eat for him. The turtle had not eaten anything for three days and was very hungry. The monkey too was hungry as he had also not eaten anything for some days. The monkey suggested to the turtle that they should go together to hunt for food for their stomachs as they both were hungry. Both of them became very good friends and they chatted all along the way while going to search for food. While they were going, the monkey saw a large bunch of bananas on a tree from a distance. On seeing the bananas, the monkey was very happy. He exclaimed that it was a good sight. He asked the turtle if he couldn't see the bananas at a distance. The monkey was very elated to see the bananas and told the turtle that he could taste them already by the sheer sight of bananas.

The turtle was however very short-sighted and he couldn't see the bananas at a distance. When both the animals came near the tree, the turtle finally saw the bananas. The two friends were very happy. The sight of the yellow bananas assuages their hunger. The two friends couldn't wait to eat the bananas. Since the turtle could not climb the tree, they both agreed that the monkey would climb the tree alone. The monkey would throw some bananas from the top to the turtle. The monkey climbed up the tree as quickly as possible. The monkey started eating the finest banana and forgot to drop any fruit for his friend who was waiting down. The turtle pleaded with the monkey to drop some bananas but the monkey pretended as if he couldn't hear the voice of the turtle. The monkey even ate the peelings of the bananas and refused to drop any bananas for his friend who was patiently waiting down. The turtle became very angry and decided that he would take revenge on the monkey. The monkey was having a very good time and was filling his stomach. The turtle below gathered some broken and sharp pieces of glass one by one and then he stuck them all around the banana tree. The turtle hid under the shell of a coconut which was not far away. This shell had a hole at the top to allow some air to enter. The turtle hid there because of this reason.

The monkey could not eat all the bananas because there were many bananas. He ate all the bananas that he could eat and came down the tree with difficulty. The glass below which was kept by the turtle was so sharp that the hands of the monkey were cut. The turtle was happy as he had taken his revenge and he was not angry as before. The monkey was now very angry at the turtle because of the trick that was played by him. He began looking for the turtle to kill him. He could not find the turtle and sat down near a coconut shell because he was very tired. The weariness of the monkey increased his anger at the turtle. He sat on the shell for a long time and was wondering where to find his enemy. The turtle made a noise because of the disturbance of the shell. The monkey heard this and he was surprised because he could not figure out where the noise came from. He lifted his tool at last and found the turtle hidden there.

The monkey carried the turtle near the banks of the river. He decided to kill the turtle. The monkey took a pestle and a mortar and built a fire intending to burn the turtle to death or pound him to powder. When everything was ready, he asked the turtle whether he should be grounded in the mortar or be thrown into the fire. The turtle begged for his life but when he realized that it was in vain, he requested the monkey to do anything but not throw him into the water. The monkey picked up the turtle with his bleeding fingers and threw him into the middle of the stream.

The turtle was very happy and he chuckled at his wit. He laughed at the foolishness of the monkey. He came up to the surface telling the monkey that the water is his home. This made the monkey very angry and he jumped into the river after the turtle and died.
