The Short Story About Worry

Once there was a small town. There lived two men. They were funny and happy. People loved these two men. The only thing they did not like about them is they worried too much about little things.

These two friends were very close to each other. People admired their friendship. They were told by the men of this town about the issue of worrying. They were told that their worrying was something to be discussed. It annoys everyone.

The two men took it seriously. They do worry more than normal people. Is it a disease? Is it a bad habit? They wondered and wondered.

Two Men Worrying Too Much

One day, there were going to the market. They saw a big signboard. Some words were written on it. They went closer to read it. It said, “Worrying makes things worse. If you stop worrying, you will be happier.”

The sign board also said, “If you can accomplish something, stop worrying about it. If you cannot, then there is no point in worrying. Worrying will not make it happen either!”

They were moved by the lovely message. All the words were true. They thought and decided to do something about it.

The Solution to Worrying

They found a solution. They thought they could transfer the work of worrying to someone else. So, they wanted to hire someone who would worry about their problems! The hired person would take care of their worries, and they would be free.

They posted an ad in search of a suitable person to hire. One day, they got a reply. A man came to their doorstep. They learned that the man did temporary jobs for survival.

They asked a few questions about him. After learning a few things, the man asked how much they were going to pay to worry for them. The men replied. “We will pay you Rs 50 a day to worry about our problems.”

The man thought for a few seconds and replied, “Only 50 rupees for all these troubles. It won’t work.”

They talked to each other for a few seconds and said, “We decided to pay you Rs 100 every day for the job.”

Two Men Hiring a Man to Worry

The man instantly replied, “It is too less for the job. If I have to take all your worries, you must pay a good salary. If you do, you will not have to think of a thing anymore.”

The men pondered on the issue and discussed it discretely. They said, “All we can do is increase your monthly salary to Rs 200.”

He said, “If I have to worry about the pay, how will I be able to worry about your problems?”

Seeing that the men would not pay him handsomely, he did not say and word and left the house. The men were surprised by the behaviour. They again started to worry now!
