Who Is Nikki Haley?

Nikki Haley entered into politics at a young age and served as a representative of the  South Carolina House. After several years, she got an opportunity to serve as a Governor Of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017. Nikki Haley was the first female and the Indian-American governor of South Carolina. After Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, she was also the second Indian American governor of the country. US President Donald Trump has chosen Nikki Haley as a United States ambassador to the United Nations and she served in that role from January 2017 to December 2018.

Nikki Haley Family

Nikki Haley’s real name is Nimrata Nikki Randhawa Haley. She was born on 20th January 1972 in Bamberg, South Carolina. She is the daughter of immigrants from Punjab and belongs to a Sikh family. Ajit Singh Randhawa is the father of Nikki and Raj Kaur Randhawa is the mother of Nikki.

In 1996, Nikki Haley got married to Michael Haley. Michael Haley was served as an officer in the South Carolina Army National Guard. While Haley served as a Governor, he was the first-ever, First Gentleman of South Carolina. They have a daughter, Rena, and a son, Nalin.

Nikki Haley Education

Nikki Haley completed her schooling and entered Clemson University for acquiring her Bachelor’s degree in the stream of Accounts. During her young age, she will support her mother’s clothing business and helped her for Exotica International, to develop it as a multimillion-dollar company. During her adolescence, she converted to Christianity through the church, Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church. She also attends Sikh services to respect her parents.

Nikki Haley’s Early Career 

Nikki Haley became the Commerce's board of directors to the Orangeburg County Chamber in 1998.  In 2003, she served as board of directors to the Lexington Chamber of Commerce. In 2004, she became president of the National Association of Women Business Owners. Nikki Haley also engaged herself in numerous organizations like West Metro Republican Women,  the Lexington Medical Foundation, and the South Carolina Chapter of NAWBO.

Nikki Haley As South Carolina Congresswoman

As per information from Ambassador Nikki Haley Biography, Nikki Haley expected to hold the seat as Representative of  South Carolina House in 2004. But she faced various challenges from incumbent Republican Larry Koon, who was one of the longest-serving members of the House. Later, she won the primary and the general election and was elected as the unopposed,  first Indian-American to hold the seat in South Carolina. Nikki Haley also faced re-election in 2006 and 2008. In 2008, she defeated the Democrat challenger.

Nikki Haley’s Election Campaign For Governor 

In May 2009, Nikki Haley was announced as a member of the Tea Party movement. In 2010, she took part in the governor’s election. Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin,  Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and Jenny Sanford supported Nikki Haley for her election campaign. Later, she took charge as the first lady governor of South Carolina.

During her election campaign, she faced numerous challenges from the South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, Larry Marchant, and a political consultant for Haley's opponent Andre Bauer. On 04th June 2010, she gave an interview with Columbia's WVOC radio and answered the blames against her.  Even at that time,  South Carolina state Senator Jake Knotts supported the opponent of Haley, Bauer.  Knotts vehemently victimized Haley through her Sikh religion, later he apologized to her.

Haley expressed her quotes and speech about breaking racial and gender barriers in the Newsweek article, which was released in June 2010. On 02nd November 2010, the Republican gubernatorial primary received the majority of votes and Haley was elected as governor of South Carolina. Also took charge as the first female governor of the state and first Indian-American governor.

Nikki Haley As Vice President 

According to the Nikki Haley Biography, During 2012, Mitt Romney spread a rumour against President Barack Obama, that he will elect Nikki Haley as the vice president after his success.  Meanwhile, Nikki Haley met the press and told them that she will decline that offer because she needs to served the people of South Carolina. Haley’s Action On Church Shooting In Charleston

On 17th June 2015, a 21-year-old white man, Dylann Roof entered the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. She aimed to shoot Black people in the church and killed six women and three men through her open shots. During this time, she killed Reverend Pinckney, who was a state senator. This incident put the entire country struck. Later, police arrested Dylann Roof and heard that he need to ignite "a race war." Nikki Haley came to know about this tragedy and gave an interview on NBC's Today by hate crime and prosecutors. She also provided the death penalty in the case. Later, she asked Roof and posted a racist manifesto on the websites and photographs on his Facebook page, by wearing white supremacists emblems.

Nikki Haley Height To Remove Confederate Battle Flag

Dylann Roof was also involved in posting photographs of the Confederate battle flag. This also ignited debate among people, whether the flag is a symbol of hate and division or the source of Southern heritage and pride for others. On 22nd June 2015, Haley took the initiative for removing the flag. And she mentioned that it will spoil the unity of the state and this would be the perfect time to remove the flag from our Capitol grounds for maintaining the state’s unity.

On 7th July,  for removing the flag from the Capitol grounds,  the South Carolina Senate voted 36-3 and the state's House of Representatives voted 94-20 to pass the Senate bill. Later, the governor, Haley passed the bill to the law during the ceremony in the lobby of the statehouse. 

During that ceremony, she also penned nine commemoratives for the shooting victims’ families.

Haley For Union Response 

On 12th January 2016, Nikki was selected by the Republican Party to deliver the GOP response after President Obama's final State of the Union address. Haley praised Obama's historic presidency as the first elected African-American as the president of the US. Meanwhile, she expressed her move as Indian-American growing up in the rural South.

Political Views Of Her Action 

After Haley’s speech, politicians and the press released the report that they are less possible to select Nikki Haley as the vice presidential running mate for Donald Trump. Later, Donald Trump elected Indiana governor Mike Pence as the vice president. Haley was also not supported, Donald Trump for his presidential race. He extended her support to Marco Rubio and also supported Ted Cruz. She also criticized the activity of Trump and raised her voice against his proposed Muslim ban against the Ku Klux Klan's support. Meanwhile, Trump responded to Haley's criticism and criticized her by calling her "weak on immigration"


Nikki Haley As United Nation’s US Ambassador
