Shakira Biography- Childhood

Have you ever wondered what Shakira's full name is? Shakira Ripoll was born in Barranquilla, Colombia on February 2, 1977. Let us know more about Shakira’s family. She is William Mebarak Chadid and Nidia Ripoll Torrado's only child. Her father, William, was born in New York City to a Lebanese family. His family relocated to Colombia when he was five years old. Her maternal  Columbian side had two Spanish surnames, Ripoll and Torrado, the former of which is Catalan and is descended from four brothers who moved from Catalonia to coastal Colombia in the nineteenth century. She has also claimed to have distant Italian ancestors through a "Pisciotti '' ancestor. Shakira is the feminine version of the name Shakir, which means "grateful" in Arabic. She was reared in a Catholic household and attended Catholic schools.

Her father's previous marriage resulted in eight elder half-siblings for her. Shakira spent part of her childhood in Barranquilla, a city on Colombia's northern Caribbean coast. Shakira's commercial ability is sometimes ascribed to her high IQ, which has been estimated to be 140 in the entertainment press. Shakira's first poetry, "La rosa de cristal," was written when she was four years old. She was captivated as a child watching her father write stories on a typewriter and requested one as a Christmas present. She received the typewriter when she was seven years old and has been composing poems ever since. These writings ultimately become tunes. An older half-brother was murdered in a motorcycle accident when

Shakira was two years old; six years later, at the age of eight, Shakira composed her debut song, "Tus gafas oscuras" ('Your dark spectacles,'), which was inspired by her father, who wore dark glasses to mask his sadness for years. She liked singing for her classmates, instructors, and even the nuns at her Catholic school, but she was rejected from the school chorus in second grade because her vibrato was too powerful. Her music teacher said she sounded "like a goat." She claims she was also known as "the belly dancer girl" because she would perform a number she had learnt every Friday at school.

Shakira was invited to numerous events in Barranquilla between the ages of 10 and thirteen, and she earned some local fame. It was at this time that she met Monica Ariza, a local theatre producer who was pleased with her and sought to aid her career. Ariza persuaded Sony Colombia CEO Ciro Vargas to organize an audition for Shakira in a hotel lobby during a trip from Barranquilla to Bogotá. Vargas admired Shakira and returned to the Sony headquarters, where he presented the tape to a song and talent director. However, the director was not overjoyed and considered Shakira to be a "lost cause."
