Steffi Graf Biography

Stefanie Maria Graf, also known as "Steffi" Graf, was born on 14 June 1969. She is a West German former professional tennis player who ranked No. 1 and a winner of consecutive 22 Grand Slam singles titles in her entire sports career. 

During the introduction of the Open Era in 1968, during the introduction of Open Era, Graf ranked second and third all-time behind Margaret Court (24) and Serena Williams (23). 

Steffi won her maiden Grand Slam event by defeating Czech-born American Martina Navratilova at the French Open championship in 1987. 

Also, in 1988, she became the iconic tennis player to receive the Golden Slam by winning all four Grand Slam singles titles (the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open)) as well as the Olympic gold medal in Seoul in a single calendar year. Steffi was born in Mannheim, West Germany. Both her parents, Peter and Heidi, were tennis players. Peter gifted his daughter a tennis racket with a little handle to swing because she was just 4. However, with her long-term dedication at the age of 6, she won her earliest junior tournament.
