KVPY Syllabus 2023 for SA, SB, and SX Stream

KVPY or the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is a scholarship exam conducted every year for undergraduate degree course students. The scholarship offers monthly scholarships to the selected students and also conducts summer camps for all of them.

Here, we are going to mention the KVPY syllabus for 2023. Applicants who have already applied for the exam are advised to download the syllabus online. The KVPY-Aptitude Test 2023 will be held on 22nd May 2023. The syllabus consists of four subjects namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics & Biology. The exam body itself prescribed the syllabi for all the three existing streams – SA, SB, and SX. The streams refer to the classes of the students i.e. 10th/11th/12th/1st year of B.Sc/BS/B.Stat./B.Math./Int.MSc/MS.

What is KVPY?

The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana or popularly known as the KVPY is a scholarship program which is funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India. The KVPY scholarship program is aimed at encouraging the students to take up research as a career in the fields of basic sciences. The program offers the selected students scholarships and contingency grants till the pre-Ph.D. level.

The KVPY Program began in 1999 and is administered by the Indian Institute of Science or the IISc. The qualified students of the KVPY Exam become eligible for fellowship as well as admissions into institutes like the IISc and the IISER on the basis of some additional criteria.

The KVPY exam has 3 streams namely: SA (for class 11), SX (for class 12), and SB (for First-year BSc students). The KVPY application process has four steps: registration, application form submission, fee payment, and status check of the application.

Importance of KVPY

The students appearing for the KVPY must have the below-given detailed knowledge.

  • The KVPY exam provides a path for budding scholars to get a chance to live up to their academic aptitude.

  • It helps the students by encouraging them to build a career in the field of research and contribute to the country's growth.

  • The students who possess determination and zeal for working in the field of research programs are selected by the exam and hence, the interested students should appear for the KVPY exam.

  • The exam even promotes and encourages the students who are highly driven to opt for research careers in basic science courses.

Exam Pattern for KVPY 2023

The KVPY Syllabus 2023 is mainly specified by the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) for the SA stream, SB stream, and SX stream. KVPY 2023 syllabus incorporates topics covered in Classes 11 and 12 science subjects, which are Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and Biology. In KVPY SA, there will be 80 questions. These are divided into parts 1 & 2 in this section. In Part 1, 60 questions of 1 mark each will be set and a negative marking of 0.25 marks will be employed for each incorrect answer.

In KVPY SA Part 2, 20 questions of 2 marks each will be allotted. However, a negative marking of 0.5 marks will be applied for every incorrect answer. In KVPY SB and SX exams, a total of 120 questions are given. Out of these, only 80 questions are to be answered. Moreover, 1 mark question will have a negative marking of 0.25 marks and 2 marks questions will have a negative marking of 0.5 marks.

Benefits of the KVPY Examination for JEE/ NEET Aspirants

There are numerous benefits of qualifying for the KVPY exam some of which include:

  • For the students having the badge of being a KVPY Scholar is an achievement as it provides direct admission to the students in top institutes like IISc and the various IISERs. The students are also eligible to get admission into IIIT- Hyderabad, which is considered to be one of the best institutes for the field of computer science.

  • After clearing the KVPY exam, the students receive a scholarship (monthly and yearly) during their basic science course (3 years or 5 years integrated course).

  • For the aspirants of the JEE exams, the KVPY is an excellent opportunity to test their concepts and understanding along with the application of logic that is much needed to qualify for the JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Also, for the aspirants of NEET, it helps to test their PCB concepts.

  • The students feel less succumbed to the pressure of class 12 boards or the JEE/ NEET preparation. As they know that they are already qualified to study in the top Indian institutes.

  • The KVPY is a tough exam (more difficult than JEE Main) and a student being called a KVPY scholar speaks to the power of your ability and hard work.

  • A student who is a KVPY scholar is also allowed free entry to all the National libraries in the country and will be able to attend all the science camps.

  • For the students who have qualified and attended the interview at such a young age helps them in the future, irrespective of whether they are selected for the KVPY fellowship or not.
