UFO Full Form in English

Let’s go through the full form of UFO. UFO full form in English is Unidentified Flying Object. It is a flying object or a body in the sky that does not belong or is not known to our world, for example, it cannot be identified as a known object (aeroplane, missile) or a natural phenomenon. UFOs are primarily associated with unseen extraterrestrial life and aliens from other planets.

The term "UFO" was coined by the USAF (United States Air Force) in 1953 to refer to any mysterious flying object that is not believed to be capable of flight. The United States Air Force defined UFOs as any airborne object that, in terms of performance and aerodynamics, does not resemble any known aircraft, missile, or other objects. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, UFOs were commonly referred to as flying discs.

In 2017, the greatest number of UFO sightings were reported. There have been 104,947 UFO sightings in the 112 years since the National UFO Reporting Centre began keeping track of UFOs. The vast majority of these sightings occurred in the United States. The majority of these sightings can be attributed to aeroplanes, fireworks, and comets.

The first recorded sighting of a UFO is thought to have occurred in 1440 BC and was documented by the royal scribe of the Egyptian Pharaoh.

Here, we will discuss UFO full name, and UFO long form.

Reported UFO Sightings During the 20th Century

We have already discussed UFO full name and UFO full form in English, let’s discuss the sightings.

  • Mystery airships: Moving lights and solid bodies were seen in the Otago area of New Zealand in 1909.

  • Miracle of the Sun: Thousands of people witnessed the sun gyrate and descend in a Portuguese city in 1917.

  • Foo Fighters: During World War II, bomber crews observed small metallic spheres and colourful balls of light in the sky during the 1940s.

  • The Ghost Rockets: Several UFO sightings were reported in 1946, mostly in Scandinavia and a few European countries.

  • Manbhum UFO sighting: In September 1954, approximately 800 people from three villages in Bihar's Manbhum district witnessed a UFO during the day.

  • Stonehenge incident: George O' Barski allegedly saw a UFO while driving in North Hudson Park, New York, in January 1975.

  • Ariel UFO incident: In September 1994, 62 children in a Zimbabwean city saw an aircraft with a small man standing next to it near their school.

History

Flying Saucers and Project Blue Book

We now know what is the full form of UFO. Let’s go through the history. The first well-known UFO sighting occurred in 1947 when businessman Kenneth Arnold claimed to have seen a group of nine high-speed objects while flying his small plane near Mount Rainier in Washington. The crescent-shaped objects moved "like saucers skipping on water," according to Arnold, who estimated their speed at several thousand miles per hour. The following newspaper report incorrectly stated that the objects were saucer-shaped, hence the term flying saucer.

Sightings of unidentified aerial phenomena increased, and the United States Air Force launched Project Sign, an investigation into these reports, in 1948. The initial consensus among those involved in the project was that the UFOs were most likely sophisticated Soviet aircraft, though some researchers speculated that they could be spacecraft from other planets, a theory known as the extraterrestrial hypothesis (ETH). Within a year, Project Sign was succeeded by Project Grudge, which was replaced in 1952 by Project Blue Book, the longest-running of the official UFO investigations, based at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. From 1952 to 1969, Project Blue Book compiled reports of over 12,000 sightings or events, each of which was eventually classified as either “identified” with a known astronomical, atmospheric, or artificial (human-caused) phenomenon or “unidentified.” The latter category, which accounted for about 6% of the total, included cases in which there was insufficient information to make a match with a known phenomenon.

UFOs are Taboo Among Scientists

An unidentified flying object is referred to as a "UFO." There is nothing more or less. Scientists, you'd think, would enjoy the challenge of solving this puzzle. Instead, UFOs have been considered taboo for academic scientists to investigate, so unexplained reports have not received the attention they deserve.

One reason for this is that most scientists believe there is more to most reports than meets the eye, and the few who have done extensive research have mostly debunked the phenomenon. Meteors, fireballs, and the planet Venus account for more than half of all sightings.

Another reason for scientific scepticism is that UFOs have been appropriated by popular culture. They are part of a larger landscape of conspiracy theories that include reports of alien abductions and crop circles. Scientists are concerned about their professional reputations, and the association of UFOs with supernatural stories causes the majority of researchers to avoid the subject.

However, some scientists have looked into it. The first major academic study of UFO sightings was published in 1968 by Edward U. Condon at the University of Colorado. When the Condon Report discovered that “nothing has come from the study of UFOs in the past 21 years that has added to scientific knowledge,” it put a damper on further research.
