Chola Dynasty

The Chola Dynasty has been impressive and the greatest among the various South Indian Empires. There were the much beyond rules of the Maldives Islands, and Sri Lanka was known to have the stable and effective massive naval power. He was responsible for supervising the Tanjore Kingdom in the 8th century. This led to the supremacy of the Chola rulers with the defeat of the Pallavas. In consequence, Tanjore became the first capital of the Chola Empire. List of the Chola Rulers - Contributions of Emperor Vijayalaya 

Vijayalaya Chola is the famous South Indian Emperor, and the extension of his kingdom was to the north of River Kaven. Vijayalaya was quite dominant in capturing Thanjavur. He was able to manage the Chola Empire with perfect efficiency. Based on various discoveries, it can be concluded that Vijayalaya was the dominant ruler of the Telugu Cholas lineage. As a conqueror, Vijayalaya had great contributions in extending the periphery of the dynasty.

Now the question is who was the founder of Chola dynasty? It is true that he is not the founder of Chola dynasty, but one cannot deny the extensive contribution of the ruler being the mighty conquer of the time. More about Gandhara Aditya Chola 

The next ruler to talk about is Gandharaditya Chola. He is one of the most powerful monarchs of Indi, and he is known to be the son of Parantaka Chola I. Hisdominance in history existed from 950 to 956 A.D. He showed his valour in the Battle of Takkolam. In the battle, the first son of Parantaka Chola I got killed, and with this, the second son Gandharaditya Chola ascended the throne. He was both a poet and a successful successor, and his death remains a mystery to date. 

The Reign of Arinjaya Chola

Following the Chola dynasty time period, you get to know him with the popular names of Arikulakesari, Arikesari, or Arindama. He was the third son of Parantaka Chola I. It is true that Arinjaya ruled for a shorter time span that is from 956 to 957 AD. As Gandaraditya died without an heir, He had a daughter named the throne who automatically went to Arinjaya Chola. He had a daughter named Kalyani, who gave birth to the successor of the Chola Empire. The successor came to be known as Parantaka Chola II, as stated in history.

Parantaka Chola II ruled between the years of 957-970 AD, and it was an extension of twelve years in total. He was extremely admirable in appearance, and when he occupied the throne, the extent of the dynasty was narrowed down. He was extremely valiant, like the emperor who was the founder of the Chola dynasty and showed his supremacy by causing an extension of the empire. He recovered some of the places in the north of the kingdom, and he defeated Vira Pandya, who was the then ruler of the Pandyan Clan. 

Knowing the Uttama Chola

He is the son of Emperor Gandaraditya and the Queen Parantakan Madevadigal or Sembiyan Mahadeva. He effectively succeeded his uncle, known as Parantaka II. He was one of the most notable kings of the Chola Empire, and he was a dedicated Shaivite. At the same time, he was tolerant of other religions, too. As part of the Chola dynasty family tree, the name of Rajaraja Chola I is quite eminent. His birth name was Arulmozhi Varman, and history also identifies the ruler with the name of Arunmozhi Udayar. He received immense honour and respect during his ruling tenure, and he is known to rule a period of thirty years at a stretch. He earned several victories during his time, and he was one of the paramount emperors of Southern India.

He ruled between the years 1044-1054 AD and earned much acclamation during his lifetime. 

Facts on Rajendra Chola II

Among the Chola dynasty rulers, Rajendra Chola II succeeded his elder brother Rajadhiraja in the eleventh century. He is a valiant king and is known for his participation in the battle of Koppam. He was the real administrator but shared a portion of his rule with his elder brother. He also managed the internal affairs of the kingdom, being the co-regent. In the Battle of Koppam, he defeated the Chalukyan King and set an example for the other fighters in his kingdom. 

The Virarajendra Chola 

Going down the Chola family tree, you get to know about the next ruler with the name of Virarajendra Chola. He is the best king after his brother with the name of Rajendra Chola II, and Virarajendra ruled between the years 1063-1070 AD. He was brave, he was wise, and he was undoubtedly a strong king. He was able to maintain the Chola status with all success, and he greatly patronized art and culture. He was a capable ruler, and he took part in administration even when his father was alive. 

Last Efforts of Rajendra Chola III 

Rajendra Chola III is known to be the last Chola King, and he ruled between the years 1246–1279 AD. He was an efficient administrator and tried his best to prevent the fall of the Chola Empire. He was bereaved to see the sudden decline of the kingdom and made attempts to regain the lost prestige with the reestablishment of the Chola Dynasty. He had a war-winning attitude that compelled the Hoysalas to get back to the Mysore Plateau. However, as degeneration started in all spheres of the Chola administration, Rajendra Chola III failed to make things normal once again.
