The mega event "Howdy, Modi," which is the Indian-American community event, happened in Houston on Sunday to greet PM Narendra Modi and US President - Donald Trump would provide the world with a glimpse of the valuable contributions of Indian-Americans to the intellectual, social and cultural landscape of the US, the organisers said.

For the first time, US President Donald Trump and PM Narendra Modi would share the stage to address above 50,000 Indian-Americans during Sep 22, the event, 'Howdy, Modi!' during the session named "Shared Dreams, Bright Future" that would focus on the success of Indian-Americans and the strength of US-India relationship as well.

Saying about the joint appearance of the two leaders as "unique and unconventional", Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the Indian Ambassador to the US said that, "this event will reflect the strong bipartisan support there has been for the US-India relations."

He also said, "Indian-Americans are an "organic bridge" between the two largest democracies of the world."

PM Narendra Modi has visited the US from Sep 21 to September 27 for the annual session of the UN General Assembly. It’s his first US visit after winning as PM for the second time in May. also, he will have a meeting with the CEO of energy companies in Houston, prior to heading New York for the United Nations General Assembly.

The event, 'Howdy, Modi!' Modi said "it is the largest gathering for an invited foreign leader visiting the US other than the Pope," Jugal Malini, who is a member of the Texas India Forum (TIF), the main organiser of the event.”

'Howdy, Modi!' is the third meeting between PM Modi and Donald Trump in 3 months, after the G7 summit in France in May and G20 summit in Japan in June. The organisers seek to portray the event as nonpartisan, and have invited speakers such as Steny Hoyer, the House of Representatives' No. 2 Democrat.

Jagdip Ahluwalia, who is the founding secretary and currently the IACCGH - 

Indo - American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston executive director, said the news agency Press Trust of India as there are 90 organisations in the town, which are participating in the event.

'Howdy, Modi!' Event Details

The Texas India Forum said that “this event will start with a 90-min cultural program named "Woven: The Indian-American Story," which is Indian-Americans including their valuable contributions to the intellectual, social and cultural landscape of the US.

This cultural show will feature near to 400 performers and members of the community from Texas and across the entire US. In the event, 27 groups have performed and 2 original songs have been written for the event that traced the Indian-American youth journey.

The "Shared Dreams, Bright Future" session followed, which focused on Indian-American achievement as well as the strength of the US-India connection. Donald Trump - US President is expected to make a speech at the event.

This will be followed by the speech of PM Narendra Modi.

The 'Howdy, Modi!' event will held at NRG Stadium in Houston, located in Texas. The stadium is one of the largest professional football stadiums in America, and it is home to the Houston Texans franchise, which held the Super Bowl in the year 2017.

The event featured a simultaneous English translation that attendees could listen to on their smartphones at the stadium.

David Leebron, the Rice University President, is pleased that Modi has decided to come to Houston. And, he proudly zooms in on the Indian-American community on the campus while highlighting their contribution towards diversity.

However, the local weather department said, there might be a rain possibility, which is caused by the tropical storm brewing in the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. There may be heavy rain in the Louisiana and Texas parts in the coming days,” it said.

“Threats from the tropical storm are the possible flooding in the Houston area, heavy rain,” said Jeff Lindner, who is a meteorologist for the Harris County Flood Control District. In addition, multiple messages and quotes were noticed across the city.
