The Chief Guest List Of Republic Day Parades

Indonesian President Sukarno was the very first Chief Guest at India's Republic Day parade. Governor-General Malik Ghulam Muhammad of Pakistan was the first Chief Guest to attend the Republic Day parade on Rajpath in New Delhi.

Take a look at the all guest list of Indian republic day parades from 1950 to 2021. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) declared on 14 January 2021 that there will be no foreign leader as a Chief Guest for the Republic Day parade events. The country will not have a Chief Guest at the Republic Day ceremony for the first time in almost five decades. According to the UK Foreign Office, the decision to cancel the visit was made in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has erupted in the United Kingdom due to a new strain of the coronavirus. The British prime minister, Boris Johnson, had already accepted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation to be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations in 2021. If British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had not cancelled his trip to India, he would have become the first British Prime Minister since John Major in 1993 and the sixth British Prime Minister to be honoured at the event. In addition, the UK would have become the first and only country to have six Chief Guests on Republic Day.

In 2020, India and Bangladesh will commemorate 50 years of diplomatic ties, and a Bangladeshi tri-service contingent will visit India at the invitation of the government to take part in the Republic Day parade. On January 26, 1950, the Government adopted its constitution as an independent, sovereign, and democratic republic. Since then, India, as a democratic republic, has had a magnificent celebration every year to commemorate Republic Day, and the Indian government has invited a foreign leader each year. Between 1950 and 1954, the first four Republic Day parades were staged at numerous places (Red Fort, Ramlila Grounds, Irwin Stadium, and Kingsway).

Rajpath, on the other hand, was chosen as the permanent site for Republic Day celebrations in 1955. Indonesian President Sukarno was the inaugural Chief Guest at India's maiden Republic Day parade on January 26, 1950. Five times each, representatives from the United Kingdom and France have been invited. This article will cover the chief guest list of republic day parades with the year of the Republic parade.

How Is The Chief Guest Chosen For India's Republic Day?

In terms of tradition, the Chief Guest at India's Republic Day parade is given the country's highest honour, but do you know how the Chief Guest is chosen? The Indian government sends the invitation six months before Republic Day to either the Head of State or the Government, depending on the type of relationship India has with the nation in question. Prior to sending the invitation, the Indian Prime Minister's consent is required, as well as clearance from the President of India. The main reason for inviting a Foreign Leader is to boost bilateral relations and to show the assortment and prosperity of the Indian culture.
