Parents Day

On Earth, parents are a gift from God. Nobody will ever be able to take the parents' place in our life. They do so much for us every day of our lives as children, and the love doesn't end when we grow up. “First your parents give you your life, then they try to give you their life,” American novelist Chuck Palahniuk once said, and no truer words were ever spoken. That's why it's important to remember them on their special day, 24 July, National Parents Day, which falls on the fourth Sunday in July. This day recognizes our parents' important role in our lives, irrespective of where they are. Mothers were celebrated in May, and fathers were celebrated in June.

As a result, in July, we will be able to gather all of our parents and show our appreciation to them all at once. Parents play an important role in their children's life. Parents protect, teach, provide, and serve as role models for us from the moment of birth. We look to them for guidance like members of a family. We learn to emulate their actions and become national commissions of our communities. The day is commemorated to honour parents' efforts and lifelong responsibilities. Parents provide their children with emotional, mental, and financial security, also ensuring that they have everything they need in life. 

Global Day of Parents

Every year on June 1st, the Global Day of Parents is celebrated. The first-ever Global Day of Parents was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012. Parents are honoured on this day for their sacrifices, devotion, and unselfish love. Parents are the guiding light in a child's existence, laying the groundwork for nurturing and growing youngsters. They provide them with vital life skills. They leave their heritage to their children, defend them, and make untold sacrifices for them. The first-ever Global Day of Parents was granted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2012. Since then, the 1st of June has been set aside to celebrate parents from all over the world. Furthermore, this day emphasized the importance of developing a strong relationship with parents based on trust and respect rather than authority or rigid guardianship, as this has a favourable impact on a child's growth and social development.

History of National Parents Day

The precious gift we receive from nature is our parents. Nothing even comes close to filling their shoes in our life. The importance of parents in the development of a child's life could be emphasized. The goal of Parents Day is to encourage responsible parenting and positive boosting of children by parents. It also goes the other way, as the day honours parents' sacrifices and the strong link of love between parents and their children. In 1994, President Bill Clinton signed a Congressional Resolution creating National Parents' Day as a legal holiday. Senator Trent Lott, a Republican, introduced the bill with the goal of “ uplifting and promoting the role of parents in child-rearing.”

Because Mothers' Day and Fathers' Day are honoured in May and June, it seems natural that National Parents' Day is observed in July. Every year on the fourth Sunday in July, residents, educational institutions, federal and municipal governments, legislative bodies, and organisations come together to celebrate National Parents' Day. Parents' roles in raising their children are recognised, uplifted, and supported through activities and events. The Parents' Day Council is mainly responsible for promoting the festival through ceremonies. The Parents of the Year award, for example, acknowledges those who set a high standard for positive parenting on a local, state, and national level.

How did it Start?

National Parents Day was first observed in the United States in 1994 when former President Bill Clinton signed a Congressional resolution into law. The following year, on July 28, 1995, the first Parents' Day was celebrated. This day was also celebrated by the first National Parents of the Year Award, which was presented by Mr Clinton himself, according to the National Archives website.

What is its Significance?

The purpose of marking this day is to celebrate the various functions and aspects of parenting. This day honours parents' contributions to their children's lives and celebrates the hard effort that goes into raising a kid in today's culture. This letter of gratitude is extremely important at a time when children are more likely to become overcome by competition. A parent's job is even more important today when children are locked up inside their homes due to the pandemic.

How to Celebrate?

Every year on this day, Americans celebrate outstanding parents, teamwork in childcare, and the role of parents in providing advice and aid in the building of a strong and stable society. Community leaders organise Parents' Day events across the country in many states. Local Parents' Day Committees, composed of volunteers, governmental officials, community leaders, ministers, teachers, students, and others, organise various events to honour parents.

Plan a surprise for your parents and suddenly wish them a happy parents day. Don't forget to hug them and give them a present. Cook for them or simply have a cup of tea with them.
