Triangle Chapter 9 Class 9 ICSE

A triangle is a closed plane figure that has three sides. Every triangle has three sides, three vertices and the three angles make a sum of 180 degrees.

In this Class 9 Chapter 9 of Maths, you learn about the congruency of the triangles. Two triangles are congruent if they coincide on placing one over the other. ‘⩭’ this is the symbol we use to represent the congruent triangles. We read it as 'is congruent to'.

Congruent triangles always coincide by superposition, i.e., placing one triangle over the other. In congruent triangles, we know the sides and angles that coincide by superposition as corresponding sides and corresponding angles.

There are different conditions for the congruence of triangles.

  1. The three sides of one triangle have the same length as the sides of the other triangle. SSS is the abbreviation for it.

  2. The two sides and one angle of one triangle have the same length and angle as the other triangle. SAS is the abbreviation for it.

  3. The two angles and one side of one triangle have the same length and angles as the other triangle. ASA is the abbreviation for it.

  4. The two angles and one side of one triangle are equal to the two angles and one corresponding side of the other triangle. AAS is the abbreviation for it.

  5. Two right triangles are congruent if the hypotenuse and one side of one triangle are equal to the other triangle. RHS is the abbreviation for it.

Orthocentre is the common point of intersection of all the three altitudes in a triangle, whereas the centroid is the common point of intersection of all the three medians.
