ICSE Sample Paper for Class 9 Maths

Question:

(a) Prove that if a+b+c, then solve a³ + b³ + c³ = 3abc. The given value of a = -10, b = -6 and c = - 4.

Ans:

a + b + c = 0

By substituting the value of a, b and c, we obtain

a + b + c = 0

⇒ -10 + 6 + 4 = 0

0 = 0

a³ + b³ + c³ = 3abc

By substituting the value of a, b and c, we obtain

a3 + b3 + c3 = 3abc

(-10)³ + (6)³ + (4)³ = 3 (-10)(6)(4)

-1000 + 216 + 64 = -720

-720= -720

So, if a + b + c = 0, then a³ + b³ + c³ = 3abc.

(b) In a circle having a diameter of 10cm with Q as the centre, AB is the chord with 8cm and QM lies perpendicular to AB. Find the distance of the chord from Q as a centre.

Ans: We are drawing a circle with a centre Q with the given information.

(image will be uploaded soon)

Given AB = 8cm

QM AB

If diameter = 10 cm, radius = 5cm

Construction

Join QA

To get the distance of AB from Q.

As it is provided that QM AB

⇒ AM = BM = 4cm

The triangle AQM is a right-angled triangle by applying the Pythagoras theorem.

(AQ)² = (AM)² + (QM)²

(5)² = (4)² + (QM)²

25 = 16 + (QM)²

(QM)² = 25 - 16

(QM)² = 9

QM = 3

So, the distance from AB to Q is 3 cm.
