Hornbill

It is the leading textbook for Class 11 English. This 11th NCERT English book has been curated to help students so that they learn to analyse literature on their own. It contains the following Chapters :

The Portrait of a Lady

The Grandmother's hair was silver in colour and was scattered messily on her creased face. She kept one hand resting on her abdomen and the other hand was counting the spheres of her rosary.

The author does not think she is particularly attractive, but rather that she is consistently outstanding. He contrasts her peaceful demeanour with the chilly season. During their extended stay in town, Grandmother awoke him early in the morning, prepared his breakfast, and sent him to school.

She used to feed the dogs the old chapatis on their way back to the house. The author used to ride the school bus to the city school and focus on subjects like English, physics, science, and a variety of other disciplines that his grandmother couldn't understand.

His grandmother was unable to accompany him to Class at this time. She was disappointed that the public school did not teach about God or religious writings.

The author was assigned a different room in his house when he went to college. At this moment, the only link between the grandson and the grandmother had been severed. Grandma didn't talk to anyone in the house anymore. She put a lot of her energy into God and started looking after the sparrows in the afternoon.

His grandmother was unconcerned when the author went overseas to complete his education. She, on the other hand, saw him off at the airport. The author was convinced that seeing her grandmother at this advanced age would be his last encounter with her. Regardless, when he returned home after a five-year absence, his granny was there to invite him back, and he spotted her.

She became ill the next morning after her grandson arrived. Despite the fact that the doctor assured her that it was just a minor fever that would pass quickly, she understood that her time had come to depart this world.

She sat down in her bed. A great number of sparrows flew in to lament her death and spread around her body. When the old woman's body was out of control for the last rituals, every single sparrow flew away without making a peep.

Walt Whitman writes about a conversation he once had with rain in this sonnet. When the raindrops carefully descended from the sky, it happened. "Who are you?" the writer asks the rain, and the rain responds, strangely, "I'm the sonnet of the earth."

Rain returns to earth in the form of tiny beads. As a result of its activity, new plants emerge on a regular basis, yet they remain hidden and unborn as simple seeds within the earth. As a result of this never-ending circular pattern of life, the rain always returns to its original location. It breathes vitality into the earth, making it pure and lovely.

The writer realises that the rain's life is similar to that of any melody after hearing its story. Furthermore, the tune comes from the writer's heart. When the melody is done, it meanders (pass on), beginning with one area and moving on to the next. It may change or stay the same as before as it progresses. However, it eventually returns to the writer with all appropriate respect for the listeners.

The sonnet, on the other hand, is written from the perspective of someone who inquires about the rain's identity. Furthermore, if the rain does not return, the seeds will remain seeds and will not bloom to their full potential, returning life to its original state. After a while, the sonnet evolves into a story with a melody.

Nick Middleton, the story's author, describes his Silk Road journey to Mount Kailash. The author wishes to visit Mt. Kailash in order to complete his Kora. As a result, he hires Tsetan with the intention of getting someone to drive him up the mountain. He got a long-sleeved sheepskin coat while leaving Lhamo behind. The author takes Daniel to Darchen in order to gain friendship.

Tsetan takes a speedier path to the south-west when they first set out on their journey. He claims to be on his way to Mt. Kailash right now. They'd have to cross high mountain passes to get to their destination. Regardless, Tsetan assures them that, in the lack of snow, doing so will be simple.

They notice dull tents when they arrive at the slope. They discover they are the houses of wanderers and notice a Tibetan mastiff guarding the tents. When they got close enough to the tents, the dogs with big jaws chased after them. They see mountains and streams covered in snow and ice as they enter the valley.

The ride on the slope becomes more choppy and bumpy. They were out and about after removing the primary hurdle from the snow-covered roadways. Because of his height and strain, the author begins to feel uneasy. They take a break for lunch at 2 pm.

Finally, in the late evening, they arrive at a small community known as 'Hor.' The author took a break in Hot and sat in an adjacent café sampling tea. Tsetan straightened out the car during this period, and Daniel headed for Lhasa. Hor was despised by the author to the point of obsession. They spend the night at a visitor accommodation in Darchen after completing their excursion. We can imagine how he feels when his nose is clogged as a result of the elevation change and the cold weather. He sees a Tibetan specialist and is prescribed a five-day prescription of antibiotics.

After that, he can finally unwind and enjoy his stay in Darchen, where he meets Norbu, another adventurer. Because Darchen has no explorers, the author seeks help and decides to accompany him on his expedition.

At long last, they enlist yaks for their baggage and Norbu surrenders while falling across the table and giggling. Norbu says it would not be possible for him and he additionally had a major belly.

Similarly, no matter what the situation, the young guys never lie. The white pony they formerly had is depicted in this story. Aram is nine years old, and his cousin Mourad is thirteen. Mourad pays a visit to Aram's house around 4 am in the beginning of the day. Mourad has brought an amazing white pony with him, which he is currently riding.

The two young men kept the pony for quite some time. They used to sing to it and ride it. In any event, the young guys kept their pony a secret from the rest of the world. They were sheltering him in an abandoned vine plantation's animal shelter. Eventually, Aram discovers that Mourad stole John Byro's pony. They established an agreement not to return it to him along these lines, although having second thoughts about keeping it because of their ethics.

Finally, one day, John sees the young men with the white lovely pony. Then again, his conviction was so strong, he said that their pony looks like his pony a lot.

As a result, the young men had a particularly memorable experience. They elected to return the pony, which John discovered the next day at the vine farm. John is overjoyed and informs Aram's mother of the good news. We can also tell that his pony is now better, more courteous, and nicer than before.

He is clueless about him and regardless of whether he attempted to develop a relationship with him like the one when he was a little youngster.

He further says that he doesn't have a clue what he adores. His child is in a better place which he can't access because of the expanding gap. There is quietness between them. He is prepared to excuse his reckless child. He needs to acknowledge him back to the house, the one which he generally knew. He doesn't need his child to move all over the planet. He is aching to adore him.

The child at long last makes some noise and offers what he feels. He is at a phase where he can't get himself. He feels sorrow about the developing distance among them and he is furious because of the anguish and trouble. They put out a vacant hand towards one another yet not a single one of them holds it. They need to pardon one another yet couldn't track down an answer for the issue.
