Poem Analysis

This poem under the Christmas category is one of the simplest poems ever written. The poem is very straightforward, with no indirect meanings. As per the name of this poem, we can simply analyse that the poet is talking about Santa. It seems like the poet or the speaker has no idea where to find Santa Claus. Now, the deep analysis of this beautifully-crafted poem is below:-

First Stanza

“Where is Santa?

Where is Santa?

Here I am.

Here I am.”

This is the first paragraph or verse in this poem. Before going into a deep explanation of these lines, we can see that the poet uses one line two times. The lines do not rhyme with each other. It depicts that the poet or the speaker has no intention to rhyme the poem. Instead, he or she is only searching for Santa Claus.

Now, the first two lines in the poem say the speaker is looking for Santa Claus; the speaker is unable to find Santa Claus. Unfortunately, no reason is given for why the speaker is searching for Santa Claus. Some basic reasons for searching could be the speaker is in trouble or is expecting a special gift from Santa Claus.

Interestingly, the third and fourth line of the poem reveals that Santa Claus has heard the speaker. Santa Claus is heard saying “Here I am”.

Second Stanza

“Merry, Merry Christmas!

Merry, Merry Christmas!

Ho, Ho, Ho!

Ho, Ho, Ho!

The first stanza depicts the speaker looking for something from Santa Claus. Interestingly, Santa Claus, on the other hand, hears the call of the speaker and appears in front of him. It seems like Santa Claus is proving himself by saying, “I am Santa”.

The first two lines in the second stanza are where Santa Claus and the speaker greet each other, and Santa Claus is trying to say that I am Santa. It also depicts that it is Christmas day of the year. This is the reason why both are sharing greetings with each other. We can also claim that both the speaker and Santa Claus are happy on this day of the occasion.

Now, there is deep meaning in the last two lines. Santa Claus has always been depicted as a laughing and always-smiling entity. The last two lines “Ho, Ho, Ho!” suggests that Santa Claus is laughing and telling everyone that Santa is here and it is also used to represent laughter.
