Hint: We will consider the fact of finding the faces for different types of geometrical shapes.
The geometric figure of a cone is shown below.
By the term face we mean that the face or the surface having any geometrical shape by which we come to know about the shape of the geometric figure in front of us. For example, we see a cake in a birthday party. We see that it has 2 faces when it is on the table. This is because only by looking at the two faces we come to know that it consists of one circular face on the top and one curved face which is around it. But if we take that up then we will be able to see its third face which is its face that lies below the cake. Similarly, for cones we will consider a cone type geometrical shape in our daily life. We will consider here a cap which is shaped like a cone. Some of us must have come across this shaped cone in birthday parties. So, when we look at the cap we see that it consists of 1 face when it is on our heads. This is because we can see that cap by its curved face which is surrounded as a cone. But at instinct we take off the cap now we are able to see its base which is its below part that was first hidden by our head when we were wearing it. So, we have come to the conclusion that the shape of the cone that is drawn in the figure actually has 2 faces.
Hence, the correct option is option (a).
Note: It can create confusion among us that the cone has only one face. But this will make the answer wrong as we are only looking at the cone from the side. But when we see the cone from an angle where we are able to see its bottom as well as its curved surface then we see that it has 2 faces and not one.
