Hint: Due to this refraction of the star's light, the star appears to be at a higher position. This can be understood properly with the help of diagrams. When the light from a star depends on the earth’s surface, it passes through the different layers of the atmosphere.
Complete answer:
A star appears slightly higher than it’s actual position in the sky because of the atmospheric refraction, the star seems to be higher in the sky than the actual position. Due to the continuous refraction light from a star which is refracted as it leaves the space and enters the earth’s atmosphere therefore this air higher up in the sky is rare but that nearer the earth’s surface is denser. Moreover when the light from the star comes down the dense air bends the light more. In other words we can also say that due to the continued refraction of star light, the stars appear to be at a higher position and the human eye will see the star at that position from where it enters it in a straight line direction.
Note: Unlike stars plants do not shine because stars are so distant that they appear as pinpoints of light in the sky, even when viewed through a telescope because all lights coming from a single point , its path is highly susceptible to atmospheric interference. Therefore, planets do not have nuclear fusion, they do not produce their own light.
