Hint: They are the connective tissue that helps in connecting one part of the body to the other maintaining their connection with each other. It is found in the whole boy and helps in the movement of that structure or organ.
Complete answer:
Tendons are the fibrous dense regular connective tissue that helps in the joining of the muscles to the bones. Structurally they are elongated and cylindrical in shape composed up of a large amount of collagen. They are white in color due to the presence of collagen and are also inextensible in nature. The tendons are present at the end of each muscle and attach them to the bone and help in their movement and support. They generally attach striated muscles to the bones. They are found in almost the whole body in each bone possible that is from head to toe. The tendons are mostly observed in the eyeballs that help them to move and rotate. The largest tendon is called the Achilles tendon which is found in the heel bone and attaches to the bone of the calf.
The tendons attach either directly or indirectly to the bone. When the tendons attach directly to the bone then the region of attachment is called fibrous entheses while when the tendons attach indirectly to the bone then the region of attachment is called peristomium. They are having high tensile strength and are able to withstand the tension.
Note:
Tendons and ligaments are similar as they both are made up of collagen. The tendon attaches muscle to the bone while the ligaments attach one bone to another bone. They are able to heal on their own if they have a minor injury but the major injury in them will need a doctor for treatment.
