We can define a motion of a body as “it is the change in a position of the body with respect to time”. There are different types of motion according to how the particles in the body move with respect to time. The different types of motion are: translational motion, rotational motion, periodic and non-periodic motion.
We can say the body is performing the translatory motion if all the particles in the body move in the same direction and cover the same distance in a given period of time. We know that there are two types of the translatory motion: rectilinear motion and curvilinear motion.
Let’s define rectilinear motion and curvilinear motion as follows,
We can say the body is in the rectilinear motion if the body as a whole moves in the straight-line. Also, we can define the curvilinear motion of the body as “if the body moves along the curve path, the motion is said to be the curvilinear motion.
We can take the example of translatory motion of the block in the moving in the straight line as shown in the figure below,

In the above figure, x is the displacement of the block in unit time t. Also, \[{P_1}\] and \[{P_2}\] are the two particles in the block. From the above figure, we can observe that the particles, \[{P_1}\] and \[{P_2}\] have moved the same distance in the same direction. This is the example of translatory motion.

Note:Unlike translatory motion, in rotational motion of the body, each part or particles in that body move in the different directions. Sometimes the body may undergo translatory motion as well as rotational motion. The rolling sphere along the inclined path can be the example of such a situation.
