Hint: In the ’The last lesson’ written by Alphonse Daudet the author portrays the most basic form of patriotism and love for their own mother tongue through this story.M Hamel is truly an effective French teacher in the last class as he leaves his post as a teacher with dignity, encouraging the youth to fight with their language as their weapons.

Complete answer:
The new Prussian rulers discontinued the teaching of French in the schools of the two districts Alsace and Lorraine. M.Hamel was a French teacher who had been doing so for over 40 years. In his last lesson, he said that from the next day the students would be learning German from a new teacher. They won't be learning their own most beautiful, clearest and logical language which is quite foreign to them. The French teachers were asked to leave. M. Hamel was no longer able to attend his old school. Despite this, he delivered his final session to his students with the same commitment and conviction as before.

M. Hamel stood up in his chair. He looked very pale and tall. He wanted to say goodbye, but he couldn't because he was strangled. Then he wrote "Vive La France!" which means 'long live France’ on the blackboard with a piece of chalk. Then he stopped. He leaned his head against the wall. Without a word, he made a gesture to the students with his hand to permit them to go as the school was dismissed.

Note: On this day of the last lesson, M. Hamel not only reveals his empathy and kindness, but also his dignity and patriotism. The story is a wake-up call for all those people who keep on postponing things endlessly.
