Mahavira was born in the early portion of the 6 century BC into a royal Kshatriya family in Bihar, India. His mother's name was Trishala and his father's name was Siddhartha. His father(Siddhartha) was a Kshatriya King from the Ikshvaku dynasty, and the ruler of the Nata, or Jnatri clan in Kshatriya Kundagrama, a residential area of Vaishali (Basarh in modern-day Bihar).
