A huge number of workers were unemployed. Even when the workers demanded higher wages and reduction in working hours, their demands were not heard. This largely dissatisfied the workers. Secondly, the miserable condition of peasants also became a factor since most of the peasants were landless and very poor. They were exploited and had to do free labour for the landlords. The farmers who possessed a small piece of land had to pay high land revenue which did not leave much for them to survive on. The farmers demanded the land of the nobles and also reduction of land revenue. However, their demands were not fulfilled.
Thirdly, the defeat of Russia in the First World War impacted the spirit of the people since a large number of soldiers were killed in the war. They wanted to withdraw from the war, but the Tsar was not ready to do so. This turned the Russian people to revolt against them.
