Hint : Asteroids are minor planets that can neither be classified as a planet nor a comet. Asteroids are generally in direct orbit around the sun and are called an inner solar system. Planetoids are the larger forms of asteroids.
Complete Step by step answer:
Asteroids are made up of rock. Some are composed of clay and silicate along with different metals like nickel and iron. Also, other precious metals like platinum and gold have been found on some asteroids.
There are several asteroids in the solar system and most of them live in the main asteroid belt, the region between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Some will go in front of and behind Jupiter which is called Trojans.
When an asteroid hits the Earth, the dust and the smoke rising in the atmosphere prevents the sunlight from reaching the world and thus causes the total temperature to drop thereby resulting in the death of the many living things.
If it hits on the land, a large amount of the dust is thrown up Into the atmosphere ad if the asteroid hits the water, there will be an increase in water vapor in the atmosphere resulting in rain thereby resulting in landslides and mudslides.
Hence the distance between the Earth and the Asteroid belt ranges from 3.2 to 4.2 AU or 478.7 to 628.3 million km or 297.45 to 390.4 million mi)
Note:
1. Ceres, Vesta, Pallas and Hygeia are the four largest objects in the belt. The asteroid belt is so big that the objects are widely spread out. The spacecraft can easily travel through the belt without collision.
