(1) Cochlea:
This is the part of the inner ear. It is hollow and spiral shaped. This makes a vital role in the process of hearing and also in the process of auditory transduction. The sound is determined by the movement of the hair cells in the inner ear due to the vibration of the sound.
(2) Malleus:
This is the part of the middle ear. It is a hammer shaped bone which connects the incus and the inner surface of the eardrum. The main function of the malleus is to transfer the sound from the eardrum to the incus.
(3) Pinna:
Pinna is the first part of the ear which reacts to the sound and is visible. The main function is to direct the sound towards the inner ear.
(4) Stapes:
It is one of the three bones of the middle ear. It is the smallest bone present in the human body.
(5) Incus:
It is also the one of the bones in the middle ear. It transmits the vibration of the sound from the malleus to the stapes. It is in the shape of the anvil.
Note: The malleus, incus and the stakes are the three bones present in the middle ear. These bones help in increasing, amplifying the vibration of the sound they receive and transmit the good quality of sound to the inner ear. Hence these are known as sound amplifiers and transmitters.
